Meet some of the exceptional people at COSOL

Pavel

I started with COSOL as a contractor four years ago as a SAP ABAP Developer working on major project for Ok Tedi Mining Limited. Since then, I’ve worked on a variety of interesting and challenging projects. My favourite project so far has been the Defence ERP Program – the most significant ITC system development in the history of the Australian Department of Defence.

Earlier this year I decided to join COSOL as a permanent employee. It was an easy decision to make. I wanted to be part of the COSOL success story, to help create an inclusive work culture and develop as a professional. Employees are actively encouraged to grow through education, training, and vast resources provided by COSOL.

An example of this is working with COSOL’s proprietary solution, RPConnect®. I am consistently impressed with the innovation made in this space. Feedback is quickly implemented into new versions and that allows agile implementation of new functionality and accelerated delivery for our clients.

I started with COSOL as a part-time Graduate Consultant working two days a week. When I graduated university in July 2018, I moved into a full-time role as an Associate Consultant. From there I discovered a passion for project management and quickly transitioned into a Project Coordinator role. I have worked on projects for Stanwell Corporation, Urban Utilities, and Department of Defence.

My biggest achievements at COSOL are winning the Team Player of the Year award in 2018 and 2020. Also seeing the first release of the Department of Defence ERP project from start to finish and being part of that successful delivery is a huge achievement.

The range of opportunities is what I love most about COSOL. The variety of people you work with, learning new and useful skills as well as the projects you work on really provide a fantastic place to work.

I have had great opportunities to develop my professional skill set. My leaders have invested in me through industry courses, and I have found my confidence in my career development increase; I can see the path to one day being a Project Manager.

After almost 17 years with the Queensland Government working in various developer and data roles, I started with COSOL in October 2019 as an Associate Consultant. Last year I was promoted to Senior Consultant in the Digital and Data Practice.

Since joining COSOL, I have worked on projects for Stanwell Corporation, QBuild (Department of Energy and Public Works), and CleanCo Queensland. I am currently working on the Department of Defence ERP Data Migration project as the Extract and Transform Lead Technical Consultant.

I won the COSOL Rookie of the Year award in 2020 and have also won an Employee of the Quarter award last year. But the most significant achievement is always a successful project delivery.

What I enjoy most about working at COSOL is the people. You’re given the opportunity to work with a diverse range of people – both fantastic people within COSOL and with clients on different projects. No two projects are ever the same and having that exposure to different clients enables you to better deliver for future clients.

I started working part-time with COSOL in 2021 while I was completing a master’s degree in Information Systems and Information Technology Management. Since completing my studies, I have joined COSOL as a full-time SAP Consultant.

I’ve worked on different projects, including SAP Materials Management data remediation project and with Ok Tedi Mining, providing support in SAP Security. I’ve also enjoyed exploring SAP Ariba and look forward to expanding my capabilities in this area.

COSOL has provided a flexible work environment, and my manager has been very supportive of my continuing study and development.

I was very fortunate to be partnered with a SME with 30+ years’ experience on my first project. He was extremely helpful; sharing his expertise and process provided a fantastic learning opportunity for me.

These are the best things about working at COSOL. People are friendly and approachable and are helping me develop my career. I also like the visibility of my work and recognition for my contributions.

I’ve been with COSOL since November 2009, when I joined the organisation in the role of Applications Support Manager. I was employed to manage the Hitachi Ellipse support tickets, hold regular support meetings and build support reporting for clients like Ok Tedi and Xstrata. I was also involved in other consulting activities.

I have had the opportunity to work with very talented people throughout the years. During my time at COSOL, I have greatly enhanced my knowledge and have worked on interesting and challenging projects.

One of my favourite projects was the Collahuasi mine project in Chile, which was early in my time with COSOL. It was a complicated Ellipse project requiring a restructure of their Chart of Accounts, and I enjoyed expanding my technical knowledge and the challenge of running translations from Spanish to English. I also enjoyed living in Chile and working closely with my colleague Chris Nugent to deliver the project.

The COSOL values appeal to me, but I think people are COSOL’s biggest asset. And it’s exciting to work in a company with a vision of strong growth into the future.

I’ve worn several hats across the business over the past couple of years with COSOL. I started as a consultant working closely with specialists to deliver successful outcomes for customers. My roles included Project Coordinator, Testing Team Lead, Data Consultant and Technical Data Migration Team Lead.

I’ve recently taken up a new position as a Solutions Manager, enabling our Client Executives to scope and position technical solutions. I have always put my hand up to try new things and I believe this has expediated my development.

For me, moving to the Business & Solution Development team was a big achievement, as I have been able to play a bigger part in building solutions to complex business problems and shaping what we deliver for customers.

Collaboration across the organisation and with clients is key in my success at COSOL.

The reason I joined COSOL was to continue helping people and organisations in the mining sector find easier and simpler ways to do their work. Almost my entire career has been spent within the mining industry. Coming to COSOL as a Principal Consultant allows me to bring a customer’s perspective when providing strategic advisory and process improvement with the support of COSOL’s IP and technical team.

Prior to COSOL, I never imagined myself working for an information and communications technology (ICT) company. However, the opportunity to work with people that have a deep technical knowledge to make transformational change was too good to pass up.

I enjoy learning about the impact that a digital transformation can have helping our clients solve complex problems.

After graduating from DeVry Institute of Technology, I was employed at Newmont Mining as a Computer Operator, and eventually worked my way into the Ellipse programming department. I started with COSOL in 1999 as a Technical Consultant doing custom programming, working on projects across North America.

I became Manager of Technical Services, leading the Developers group, and in 2020 I was promoted to Practice Manager with the technical staff consolidated into my team. My most significant career achievement, I’m especially proud of the way people in the team support others and collaborate.

I have been fortunate to work on great projects and have met many great people, and I still work with quite a few today. One special highlight was in 2008, running between Phoenix, Arizona and Toronto, Canada, working for Vale when Inco was acquired.

What I like best about working for COSOL is that the organisation has a solid 20+ year foundation and still maintains a fresh and flexible ‘can do’ startup mentality.
