I’ve never really been a podcast listener, but “The Rest is History” has given me a new perspective on how lessons from the past shape the systems and decisions we make today.
In a sense, knowing the past allows you to glimpse into the future.
Quick French Cuisine
How to make simple, elegant dishes with what you probably have in your fridge already.
How data quality and collaboration between teams can transform asset management outcomes.
Building strong peer-to-peer relationships and fostering trust through genuine, thoughtful, communication and time spent.
Getting rid of siloed data.
The biggest challenge is not a lack of information, but that the information isn’t shared or visible when it needs to be.
Technology that bridges those gaps can completely transform asset performance.

The book ‘Tell to Win’ had a real impact on how I think about communication and leadership. As a Colombian, storytelling has always felt natural to me, it’s woven into our culture.
More broadly, storytelling is fundamental to how humans have shared knowledge and made sense of the world, from cave paintings and myths to modern films and business narratives. The book reinforced the idea that data and logic matter, but it’s the story around them that helps people connect, understand, and ultimately take action.
I would teach a masterclass on photography.
Photography has been an eye-opening experience for me because it fundamentally changes how you see the world. The same subject can look completely different depending on the lens, aperture, or shutter speed you choose.
That idea has strongly influenced how I approach life and problem-solving. Often, progress isn’t about working harder, but about changing perspective and choosing the right way to frame the problem.
I would speak about MRO spare parts management and optimization, and how many organizations are unknowingly sitting on a significant source of untapped value.
In many cases, MRO inventory has grown over years without a clear strategy, tying up capital and creating risk. When approached thoughtfully, it can become a lever for unlocking cash, improving reliability, and funding broader asset modernization initiatives.
One of the biggest myths is that data needs to be perfect before any meaningful work can begin. In reality, waiting for perfect data often leads to long delays, rising costs, and missed opportunities.
An agile approach that starts with what you have, improves data as you go, and delivers value incrementally is far more effective. Progress matters more than perfection.
From what I’ve seen so far, COSOL is deeply centered on client business outcomes. The team is willing to invest upfront to show what success looks like, help customers get back to a stable and reliable operating state, and stay engaged as a trusted advisor throughout the journey.
That commitment to reliability, in partnerships, data, technology, assets, and delivery, is what truly sets COSOL apart and explains the trust it has earned in the market.
I would focus on helping organizations establish a clear and sustainable MRO strategy. Many companies have allowed MRO inventories to grow unchecked over time, not out of neglect, but out of necessity.
With the right data and approach, that inventory can be optimized in a way that frees up capital, improves maintenance effectiveness, and funds broader reliability and modernization initiatives, all while keeping production uptime as the top priority.

LinkedIn Learning has been a consistent resource -especially around leadership, communication, and operations.
The bite-sized courses helped me rethink how I manage complexity and lead through change. Some of the most impactful learning, though, came from internal conversations with peers and mentors.
Those real-time exchanges challenged my thinking and helped me refine my approach in ways no course ever could.
One surprising insight is that operational efficiency isn’t just about systems
- it’s about how people work together.
The way teams share information, support each other, and adapt can make or break a process.
Tools help, but it’s the human side that drives real progress.
That’s a hard one!
I might teach a masterclass on parenting while working remotely - how to separate work from home life when they happen to be in the same place. It would cover staying flexible, creating boundaries (even when they’re hard to hold), and managing the unexpected with grace… and a lot of patience.
I’d also explore time management as a life skill - sharing strategies I’ve learned (and continue to refine) to prioritize what matters and stay focused when everything feels urgent. It wouldn’t be about having all the answers, but about sharing what’s helped and what I’m still figuring out.
I might also teach on career pivots: what to expect when stepping into a completely new field, and all the things I wish I’d known when I made that leap.
Or maybe a masterclass on baking… chocolate chip cookies, anyone??
That systems and data are the secret sauce for success. In truth, they’re just part of the recipe.
Without strong team engagement, clear direction, and mutual trust, even the best tools can fall flat.
People make the systems work - not the other way around.
I’ve been fortunate to have strong working relationships here, but the most surprising thing is how easily we’ve built meaningful connections globally.
When COSOL acquired AddOns, I worried that distance, time zones, and different work styles might make it difficult to build real connections.
Turns out, we’re great at cutting through those barriers. In fact, some of my most trusted and rewarding professional relationships are with our teams in Australia - something I never expected but now couldn’t imagine working without.
One moment that will always stand out to me is when I was on the Managed Services team and sitting in on a client call.
A simple question from the client led to an impromptu deep dive into their system usage.
Our team pivoted quickly, turning the conversation into a mini training session that helped the client rethink how they were using their tools.
It wasn’t planned, but it showed how responsive and knowledgeable our Managed Services team is - and how even small moments can lead to big shifts in understanding.
I’ve developed a strong troubleshooting mindset - less about having all the answers and more about knowing how to approach a problem, where to look, and how to ask the right questions.
I’ve also learned that clear communication - and sometimes even over-communication - is one of the most effective ways to prevent issues and solve them quickly when they do arise.
And perhaps most importantly, I’ve learned that failure isn’t something to fear - it’s something to learn from.
COSOL has created a culture where mistakes are treated as opportunities for growth, and while I’m still learning to be comfortable with that, it’s helped me become more resilient and open to new approaches.

I re-read this book this year. It’s a story about the modern DevOps movement that started about 15 years ago.
It shows the importance of leaders focusing on the right areas to really affect change and drive reliability of a product.
As more asset-intensive industries electrify everything, in order to decarbonise, battery technologies, charging infrastructure, and the expertise required to manage these assets will change the landscape of many industries.
There will need to be a huge increase in industrial knowledge regarding these products to ensure companies stay competitive.
...it would be on data literacy.
The skill of making sense of the world’s information. Together we’d look at how curiosity, questioning, and scientific thinking can help us cut through the noise, uncover clearer insights, and open the door to richer collaboration.
If you collect enough data, insights will automatically emerge.
Many industries have lots of plans to gather or mine data but less have plans of how they will use this data to provide insights into their business.
There needs to be a shift towards working backwards from the insight that you want to gain to the understand the data and data quality that is required for that.
Companies that then put effort into mining the right data in the right ways.
It is the unique combination of deep asset management expertise and an equally strong understanding of the systems that underpin those assets.
This dual strength allows us to deliver practical, end-to-end solutions that address the full spectrum of challenges faced in asset-intensive industries.
There is an industry wide skills shortage, especially in engineering, planning, and scheduling.
I think with the right combination of accelerator tools like agentic AI and strong governance of asset strategy and master data, these shortages can be greatly reduced or even eliminated.
This would enable an even more productive workforce to be built.

Smart plant technologies are opening new doors for asset-intensive industries. While plants have been collecting large volumes of data for more than a decade, the real gap has been in having the tools and processes to analyse and actually use that information.
Instead of static paper records or unused digital logs, we now have live and historical data that can be transformed into actionable insights.
What excites me is COSOL’s current and future offerings in this space - helping clients take the data already at their fingertips and turn it into meaningful decisions that improve reliability and performance.
Travel is my passion!
After years of flying for work, I’ve learned how to turn all those miles and points into amazing personal trips.
I’d love to teach a class on how to stretch rewards into cost-effective, memorable adventures - making the most of what you’ve already earned to see more of the world.
I would speak about the transformational potential of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as a key part of the future energy landscape.
They offer scalable, safe, carbon-free power that can meet rising global demand while supporting decarbonization efforts. Just as important, I would highlight the role of Enterprise Asset Management systems, along with the growing use of AI, in helping organizations operate and maintain these assets efficiently.
The long-term success of SMRs will depend on our ability to manage them intelligently with limited headcount, and our industry is just beginning to realize what is possible.
COSOL isn’t afraid to take on the complex work that others often avoid.
While many implementers shy away from data quality and integrity challenges, COSOL leans in -with specialized teams that know how to turn messy data into a strategic asset.
I would focus on helping customers make sense of the vast amounts of data they now collect.
While there are many tools available for monitoring, prediction, and analysis, the real challenge is integrating those tools in a way that supports confident, timely decision-making.
Leveraging artificial intelligence to not just analyze data, but to guide decisions, will be critical to unlocking the full value of modern asset management.

SkillUp’s podcast routinely highlights the unfortunate waves of layoffs that occur because of mismanagement or poor industry conditions.
It consistently reminds me that reliability is as, if not more, important to provide to my team as it is to our customers.
Making pizza!
A few years ago, my partner and I were gifted a pizza class for Christmas, and it didn’t take long until we had bought a Gozney oven and were experimenting with different dough & unique topping combos.
Asparagus, prosciutto, & gorgonzola is my favourite so far.
AI readiness.
As much of a disruptor that AI has been and will continue to be in the technology space, the benefits require a solid foundation of modern systems and quality data.
It is a journey that is best taken one step at a time, guided by experts.
Put simply: our people.
COSOL is full of knowledgeable, dedicated, reliable people that want to provide the best services and solutions to our customers.
Whether that means overnight work during a cut over, resolving critical outages outside of office hours, or establishing more reliable technology platforms, the team of people are what get to the outcome.
Change must be people first.
While a new tool, system, or platform may seem on paper like the easy fix to an operational issue, without proper change management and engagement of the team at the coalface it won’t stick.
I’ve become a stronger communicator and collaborator both at work and at home as a result.
COSOL migrated Anglo American’s business units to their modern S4 ERP platform.
I was fortunate enough to be the EAM lead for migrating the Platinum business, in which we defined a transformation approach that allowed for a complete redefinition of their asset hierarchy – standardising across all of their Platinum sites.

I still think AI is underestimated, especially in asset-intensive industries. In five years, I believe we’ll see AI copilots built into systems like Ellipse, which can remove thousands of hours of admin work so people can focus on higher value decisions instead.
Coming from a machine learning background and having worked on COSOL’s LLM testing, I see how close we are to that future.
If I had to teach a masterclass, it would have to be on cryptocurrency. What drew me to it wasn’t the hype but how much of it is based on human psychology, i.e., the way people react to fear, greed, and uncertainty. Also, it teaches discipline because it forces you to manage risk, learn from mistakes and make decisions when the picture isn’t always clear.
I am also interested in the blockchain itself, which I believe will be huge in shaping industries in the future.
I’d talk about the power of partnership in navigating legacy systems. Some of our clients at COSOL rely on complex software, and what makes COSOL different is the depth of experience our people bring.
I’ve seen first hand how our team uses their years of knowledge to solve many different problems quickly and reliably, which builds trust and shows clients that they are never tackling challenges alone.
A perspective I’ve gained here is how to prioritise effectively under pressure.
There were times where I was supporting two different clients at the same time, so I had to stay organised by dividing tasks in a structured way and still deliver results with high quality.
This taught me it’s important to concentrate on the right things at the right time to get the best results.
My recent work on LLM testing for COSOL's AI Services is something I'm proud of. Given my background in machine learning, this was the area I was most interested in, and COSOL gave me the opportunity to do that in a real-world setting.
It was exciting to apply AI in a practical way and see how it can change the way clients interact with their data.
For me, it was also a big step forward in turning my interests into real value for clients and progression in my career.
What I’ve learned at COSOL is the power of teamwork.
Even when people are busy with their own projects, they still take time to help and share knowledge.
It shows how much faster you grow when you are surrounded by people who genuinely want you to succeed, and it’s inspired me to do the same for others whenever I can.

A key trend I would like to see is the usage of AI powered tools that would reduce the administrative work especially for teachers and educators.
These tools will automate tasks with their paperwork and lesson planning, reducing their burn out and enabling them to focus more on student engagement and learning.
Vision-led

Collaborative
Over the last year with Toustone | COSOL, one quality I have developed is ‘Project Leadership'.
I have learned - effective team collaboration, manage project timelines and keep stakeholders aligned - while staying adaptable and solution-focused.
This has helped me grow in confidence and take ownership of outcomes.
What I have discovered is the incredible depth of knowledge within the team and how everyone uses it collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes.
What’s even more inspiring is how we all channel this expertise towards the company’s goals, working together with a shared purpose to drive innovation and deliver impactful results.
