Clarita Solutions (a COSOL Company) is playing a key role in enabling the operation and maintenance of Sydney’s WestConnex road network by working closely with client Fulton Hogan Egis O&M (FHEOM). WestConnex is Australia’s largest transport and urban renewal project and a critical part of the NSW government’s plan to overcome traffic congestion with an integrated public transport and road infrastructure solution.
The Fulton Hogan and Egis Projects Asia Pacific joint venture is responsible for providing operation and maintenance services for the tunnels and motorways that make up the WestConnex network. Specifically, FHEOM provides the incident response crew, maintenance crew and M&E (mechanical and electrical) technicians that are needed to ensure the WestConnex tunnel and road network operates safely and efficiently.
Best Practice with IBM Maximo
The M5 East (M5E) motorway connects Sydney’s southwest with the airport. When FHEOM acquired the maintenance responsibilities for the M5E in mid-2020, Clarita undertook the transition of data on locations, assets, meters, routes, job plans and planned maintenance schedules using enterprise asset management (EAM) software IBM Maximo.
Clarita configured IBM Maximo to best-practice standards and mapped datasets such as failure codes, crafts and classifications to meet WestConnex requirements.
Among the maintenance functions that Clarita has helped streamline is tunnel jet fan maintenance. Clarita designed and built an integration between IBM Maximo and the Operations Manager and Control System (OMCS) to improve operational visibility of asset performance data and drive maintenance schedules. It also allowed for the efficient raising of work orders for detected and predicted faults.
“Clarita/COSOL consolidated our EAM requirements and addressed them holistically”
Leveraging the ecosystem
The solution has been deployed on the EAM as a Service (EAMaaS) cloud platform, with a customised Managed Service Support program for the company’s IBM Maximo and EZMaxMobile environment. The integrated asset information ecosystem approach means FHEOM can easily extend this environment to support emerging capabilities. Accessing rich media documentation like engineering drawings or repair videos directly from work orders in the field is one improvement initiative currently being explored.
Fulton Hogan Egis O&M has also undertaken a BIM integration proof of concept taking a federated model and creating IBM Maximo locations and assets. The model was then able to be explored within IBM Maximo allowing users to select records and view them in the model or select an element from the model and view the asset details.
Having seen the Clarita and FHEOM partnership evolve over a period of four years, FHEOM Completion Manager Ben Bentley says he couldn’t be more satisfied with Clarita’s service offering.
“Prior to commencing on the EAMSaaS platform, FHEOM by self-admission was unsure of the hosting and support arrangement needed,” Bentley says.
“Clarita and the EAMSaaS service was able to consolidate our requirements and enable FHEOM to holistically address hand-back requirements at end of contact with absolute certainty.”
